a birthday gift, from me to you

Monday, 4 June, I turn 28.

I kind of have mixed feelings about the thing. One the one hand, getting older sucks. But, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that a lot of people already think I'm over 30, which may or may not be a compliment, but I'm going to assume it is. Mostly, I think it has to do with my writing, but that's not really the point of the post.

the point is, that I'm too old to expect presents from people who aren't my family (other than, you know, free beers from friends), so instead I'm going to give all of you a present.

however, it should be noted that if you really want to get me a present, I'm in no way against that.

anyway, the other day I discovered that Google Video has an option where you can download stuff for your video Ipod or other portable device (also, your hard drive). so, being the nice person that I am, I've decided to make 2 of my films, L'Attente and guard duty, available for Ipod consumption. And it's completely free.

Just go to the d press Productions webpage and follow the links.

Bon anniversaire Lucas!

Thanks for the links. Really enjoyed Guard Duty.

I'm not looking forward to turning 28, but 29 seems like it's okay...not because you're any younger, but because it's a nice sort of limbo where you're not really in your twenties anymore but you don't have to say you've crossed into thirty yet.

merci, Matt.

guard duty the type of thing you don't encounter all that often in Australia, I'd think

i kind of felt the same way about 24 as opposed to 23. it just sounded better somehow

i guess we all have our own ways of coping with aging, but i don't really understand why lucas goes through this every year. every day, we're older, every second; a birthday is little more than a number, a conventional unit that doesn't mean anything.

hardly the concern of an artist, especially since i'm pretty sure it's just propaganda to make us all work harder before we die instead of simply living.

28 eh?

Steven Soderbergh won the Palme d'Or when he was 26.

Orson Welles wrote, produced, directed and acted in Citizen Kane when he was 26.

Now I am not yet 26, but something tells me I am not going to quite reach either of those marks. I don't know about you but I find that a little depressing.

it's amazing how even when you give stuff away people find a reason to be critical

as always, you've given me a reason to do more drinking ;)

damn that Soderbergh and Welles

if that's directed at me, you should probably consider two things. one: i don't have an ipod. if you'd been paying attention, you would know that. you didn't give me anything.

two: it's not necessarily criticism, rather you just chose to look at it that way. " i don't really understand" means just that -- i don't. also, the last bit was meant to be an encouragement more than anything.

someday perhaps you'll be mature enough to appreciate me (and that's more hope than criticism).

whether or not someone has an ipod isn't really any of my concern
